On December 4th, Spotify released users’ Spotify Wrapped, an annual feature that allows users to relive their listening habits over the last twelve months. This event has been going on for ten years, evolving each year with new additions to the feature. This year, Spotify included how many minutes you’ve listened to throughout the year, your largest listening day, how many songs you’ve listened to, your top five songs, how many artists you listened to, your top five artists, how your favorite genres evolved throughout the year, and how many minutes you spent listening to your favorite artists. Music is an integral part of our lives since many use it to focus, relax, or maybe stop thinking for a moment. Because of this, listeners now look forward to seeing their Spotify Wrapped, as well as sharing any interesting parts with their friends.
In this article, I will be covering top artists, songs, podcasts, and other fascinating topics related to this year’s Spotify Wrapped. I will also interview students and teachers about their Spotify Wrapped, specifically their total minutes spent on Spotify wrapped, their top artist, and their top song (or however much they are willing to share).

Controversy
Many listeners believe that Spotify has relied too heavily on AI this year, lacking as much information as last year. One of the most notable regarding this controversy is the genres. Firstly, we didn’t receive any information about our top genres this year. Secondly, the genres they did provide are oddly specific and a little bit frightening, such as “Pink Palettes Princess” and “Coastal Grandma.” They are basically useless since it is uncommon for one to find these genres on any other music platform. The specificity of it is also a little unusual to some. Many argue whether these genres were human-made or AI-generated (if it was indeed AI-generated, how did they come up with these genres?) Although Spotify doesn’t specify, it is known that it does take your profile name, email address, password, gender, date of birth, street address, and even school when you sign up for the Student plan. The most concerning is that it also takes information on pretty much anything you do when using Spotify, yet despite all the personal data it’s taking, it can’t seem to recognize that I am not a ‘coastal grandma.’
