We welcome you to join us as we look back on this year’s Spirit Week in which we celebrated a week of fun, unity, and school pride! Throughout Spirit Week there were events such as food trucks, student versus staff volleyball, karaoke, a pep rally, the homecoming game, and the high school carnival. Our adventurous week concluded with the Homecoming Dance, inspired by the Hollywood classic, La La Land. As the week went on, students were encouraged to dress up in accordance to the theme of the day. This article explores our Bobcats’ exciting experiences as the week went by, with fun pictures included! Whether you participated in the exciting lunch-time activities or dressed up to match the week’s themes, this Spirit Week is just unforgettable.
Monday
Mismatch day was the first theme of the week. Our students went around the hallways in peculiar outfits, consisting of mismatched socks as well as strange top and bottom combinations. It’s not everyday you see your teachers wearing Naruto pajama pants to school. The classic Food Truck Festival took place during all periods of lunch. Students enjoyed a wide variety of foods they wouldn’t have enjoyed with packed lunch or school lunch. The food trucks included Chick N’ Bros, Brooklyn Pizza, El Cameleon, The Bubble Hive, and Tea Up Boba. Long lines of hungry students piled in front of each truck, eagerly waiting to order their food. Whether it be the delicious, savory foods or refreshing drinks, each student had something delicious to look forward to. The boba truck especially is an all-time Bobcat favorite.

Tuesday
Our second day consisted of our most patriotic theme yet. Embracing the red, white, and blue, students united to dress up for one of the funniest themes of the week, USA day. Despite it not being July 4th, that didn’t stop us from embodying the stars and stripes. Ms. Settle, our school’s beloved APUSH teacher, even offered homework passes to those who dressed up for the occasion. While dressed in colors representing USA, students and staff faced off in the gym for a game of volleyball during lunch. You would find staff and students alike either watching and cheering or playing volleyball, truly representing that all-American spirit.

Wednesday
Next up was Western Wednesday. Students showed up to school in what they considered “western gear:” cowboy hats, boots, and bright bandanas were worn by students. Meanwhile, a karaoke event was held in the theater for lunch. Students showed up with their friends to sing their favorite songs in a round of karaoke. From Charlie Puth to Selena Gomez, the Beatles, and even Rick Astley, the theater was packed with students, singing along with those on stage.

Thursday
The BISV Pep Rally was held on Thursday. Each grade had a special class color as the outfit theme for the day. 6th and 9th graders wore gray. 7th and tenth graders wore white. 8th and 11th graders wore black. Seniors had the color red all to themselves. Along with the class colors, students also wore BISV shirts and hoodies. The pep rally showcased many sensational performances, starting off with dances by our K-Pop dance and Bollywood clubs and competitive-tag team games between each grade. Our teachers also joined in at the end to face off against the winning grade in a tough match. After last year’s Pep Rally without the tug of war, students were thrilled when their favorite competition was brought back. Thursday was the Homecoming Game for our Bobcats. Our girls’ volleyball team faced off against East Palo Alto Academy, where we won all 3 sets: 25-7, 25-11, 25-5. Go Bobcats!!

Friday
On Friday, iconic duos roamed the hallways of the school. Students went from class to class while matching with their friends. Thing 1, Thing 2, and Thing 3 were spotted walking to class together, and matching Teletubbies were wandering the hallways. We also saw a variety of salt and pepper as well as cat and mouse in class. These iconic duos could be seen together throughout the high school carnival where they came together to enjoy all the fun. The carnival had many fun games such as the dunk tank as well as churros, ice cream, and jelly beans.

Homecoming
At the end of the exciting red carpet journey was the much anticipated homecoming dance. On the theme of the beloved musical La La Land, the gym was beautifully decorated with balloons and lights that fit the La La Land theme. There was also a photo booth which was very popular amongst the students. Students could bring outside guests to join them at the dance, whether it be their special someone or a friend from another school. The dance only consisted of high-schoolers, but the gym was still packed to the brim. Refreshments such as cookies, pink lemonade, and pizza were offered as the students danced with their peers.
As the first spirit week of the school year, it was certainly an extraordinary week: a dream-like week with numerous fun events. Each day was a different and exciting endeavor. We started the week with students roaming the hall in their funky, mismatched attire and ended it with the homecoming dance where students showed up to dance and have fun. This homecoming was a first for some and the last for others but the one thing that was common amongst all was that the atmosphere truly made you feel that bobcat spirit.
