Starting September 23rd, it is officially Libra season! “What does that entail?” you may ask. Well, hop in and buckle up, because it’s the season of relationships, balance, and harmony.

I. What is Libra?

Libra is the second air sign, third cardinal sign, and seventh star sign in the Zodiac chain. Its season spans from Sept 23 to Oct 22, meaning people who are born during this time frame are Libras. Several common Libra traits include, but are not limited to: diplomatic, people-oriented, charming, balanced, indecisive, and non-confrontational. Libras make effective mediators, due to their ability to understand all aspects of a given situation. Air signs are known for being aloof, intellectual, social, analytic, and collected. They are the thinkers, analysers, inventors. With their cooperative natures and inventive minds, air signs continuously push for a better world.Libra is one of three cardinal signs. Cardinal signs mark the beginning of a new season – in Libra’s case, autumn – and the sparking of new ideas and initiatives. Libras are often known to be charming influencers and trendsetters.

II. Story of Libra

Symbolised by a pair of scales, similar to those used in court, Libra’s story is one of judgement and critical decisions. Although originally considered the front claws of Scorpio – the 8th Zodiac – by the Babylonians and Greeks, the Romans viewed Libra as its own constellation. The Romans associated Libra with trade – balancing different goods in order to determine each piece’s worth.

In contrast, the ancient Egyptians saw Libra as governing a different set of crucial decisions: whether or not a soul would rise to Osiris, the ruler of the afterlife. In Egyptian mythology, the scales of Anubis would determine a soul’s purity. Maat, the goddess of truth, would weigh the Feather of Truth against one’s soul or heart on these scales. If one’s heart was good and pure, it would be as light as the feather, and the soul would move on to the afterlife. However, if one’s heart was loaded with sins, the scales would tip towards the heart, and the soul would be fed to Ammit (the soul-devourer) and be lost forever. The afterlife was a significant element of ancient afterlife was a significant element of ancient Egyptian life, as shown by their detailed care in mummification techniques and rituals, and their monumental pyramids built to preserve these mummies.

III. What Does Libra Season Affect?

Libra season mainly affects one’s personal, business, and romantic relationships, since this sign rules the 7th House – the House of Relationships. Usually, Libra season affects these relationships positively, as Libras, being the flirts and social butterflies of the Zodiacs, excel at maintaining balanced and healthy relationships. This is often a relaxing break from the hard work and ambitious drive of Virgo season.

However, Libra season doesn’t come without its costs. Indecisiveness is one of Libra’s bold flaws, as well as people-pleasing. You may find yourself doing whatever will please your friend or partner, rather than finding time to focus on yourself. During Libra season, we need to remember to actively make a choice – not impulsively, just make sure to choose – and to take care of ourselves as much as we are taking care of our loved ones.
