Somewhere out there, a nightingale warbles,
A soothing, purified tune
Carried to my windowsill
Coaxing me asleep.
Somewhere out there, an owl trills.
A dancer’s silhouette
Dark against the moonlight,
Daring prey to near.
Somewhere out there, a mockingbird croones.
A sharp, cutting voice,
A little bit of irritating,
Swooning in full moon

Zoe C. is a 6th grader. She was introduced to poetry in 2nd grade and began to write. This form of writing interested her because it allowed her to express what she was feeling at a certain time. She isn’t really good at poetry but it lets her unstress and just say out the words she’s bottling up. Zoe hopes others will understand how she is feeling with these poems because in each one, she has included something special or important to her.
