Introduction
The BISV journalism team is excited to announce the (re)launch of our literary magazine: The Inkwell. This magazine will have more casual content than The Quill, our main newspaper, and will include games, student works, interviews with BISV staff/students, and more! We will print biweekly issues designed to engage directly with the BISV community. Inkwell issues will be available in the same place where you get The Quill ( on the bulletin board near the B-stairwell cafeteria entrance), so keep a lookout for our first issue on October 7th! If you prefer reading a digital version, they will also be on The Quill website under the subsection Inkwell For those who enjoy interactive challenges, our website will host BISV-themed crosswords and other (semi)educational games created by our Inkwell editors. If you’re a fan of the New York Times puzzles, you’ll love these school specific twists!.
What Will be in The Inkwell?
The Inkwell will spotlight creative works from our very own BISV students. We will host monthly contests where students can submit art, essays, poems, or other original works themed around a specific prompt. Our first contest has already been announced, and submissions will be due on October 7th. The best entries will have a chance to be published in the Halloween edition of The Inkwell, and many of your English teachers are offering extra credit for participation or being published! The contest prompt is below:
The Halloween season is creeping up, and Rufus is in need of some scary stories! Bring your nightmares to life in the form of an essay, artwork, or poem that embodies the chilling spirit of horror.
Aside from our monthly contests, The Inkwell will also host more lighthearted content and articles that feature more community engagement. For instance, many of our holiday-themed articles will be published in The Inkwell, so keep an eye out for Halloween-themed content in our next (and first) edition. Each issue will be accompanied by a selection of classic newspaper games, like a crossword, sudoku, and Wordle. We will also run periodic interviews of BISV teachers and staff, sometimes about serious issues impacting our school, sometimes just for fun. Have someone you’d like to see us interview? Let us know!
We’re also excited to introduce a Q&A section, where BISV staff and Inkwell editors will answer all of your burning questions. Whether you are in need of some advice on how to prepare for college or are simply curious about something, we encourage you to submit all of your questions to this Google Form: https://tinyurl.com/inkwell-qa!
Conclusion
The Inkwell will continue all throughout the school year and survive as a sister companion to The Quill. If you see our editions around school, feel free to go pick one up and give it a read! We’re really excited to revamp this magazine for the BISV community, and we welcome everyone to take part, whether through reading the issues, playing our games, or submitting your work!
