Ever feel stuck on a Wordle or have a sudden urge to level up your Wordle skillset? Well, fear no more! As a self-proclaimed Wordle master who has consistently passed the daily Wordle (with a streak of over 100!), I have devised a few hacks and tips to help you beat this fun little game.
What is Wordle?
Wordle is a simple yet addictive word-guessing game. With each guess, the game provides feedback by highlighting letters in different colors: green for correct letters in the right place, yellow for correct letters in the wrong place, and gray for incorrect letters. Players have six guesses to try and figure out the correct word.
Starting Word for Wordle
The optimal strategy for the starting word is to test out as many vowels as possible. Therefore, the best words to start with are words like “AUDIO” or “ADIEU.” Using these words narrows down a lot of your other guesses, as you know which vowels to include.
Tips and Tricks
Since Wordle only has 6 guesses, it’s best to adapt ASAP rather than spend guesses on multiple starting words.
If your guessing word reveals vowels, try to make your second guess include the vowels you obtained in the previous guess and the most commonly used letters like s, t, r, p, l, or ck/ch. One tip is that the vowels are usually in the middle 3 letters, but stay on the lookout for the possibility of the vowel being the first letter as well. If there are multiple vowels, the most common placement of them is on the 2nd and 4th box, or if they’re a common vowel combination like “ie”, then they are probably on the 2nd & 3rd slots or the 3rd and 4th slots. Another thing to look out for is that if there’s only one vowel, it can be repeated multiple times.
If there are no vowels or the common letters aren’t working, try the word “NYMPH.” “NYMPH” gets all the obscure letters, including the letter “Y,” which might be used as a vowel.
From then on, use your knowledge and best intuition to figure the word out, filling in the gaps with common 5-letter words. Best of luck!
Strategy for Dordle, Quordle, Octowordle, Sedecordle, Duotrigwordle
Dordle, Quordle, Octowordle, Sedecordle, and Duotrigwordle are all adaptations of the game Wordle. Dordle is completing two Wordles simultaneously with 7 guesses, Quordle is completing 4 Wordles with 9 guesses, Octowordle is 8 Wordles with 13 guesses, Sedecordle is 16 Wordles with 21 guesses, and Duotrigwordle is 32 Wordles with 37 guesses.
Since there are more words to guess and more chances, the optimal strategy would be to use multiple starting words to cover the most common letters, as using one word to figure out the vowels isn’t enough. My favorite combination of starting words is “PAUSE”, “MINTY”, “GROWL.” Those three starting words cover the most common letters and never fail me. Although the games might seem intimidating at first, they actually get easier in the later stages, as solving one word will give information about the others, which makes the later words easier to solve.
Hopefully, after reading this article, your Wordle skill level has improved! These are just some of my favorite tips and tricks that I have figured out after years of grinding the game daily. If you master this game and are looking for harder variations, try the hardle (only knowing the number of green, yellow, or grey letters and not the positions), the fibble (one inaccurate hint every guess), or the nerdle (math version of the wordle)!
