If you could have any superpower, what would you choose? Flying, maybe? Mind-control? Teleportation? There are seemingly endless options to choose from, limited only by your creativity. Superpowers are the pinnacle of imagination. From comic books to TV shows, superheroes with amazing, unique powers have long been a subject of fascination for many, creating incredible scenarios that we can only dream about. But if superpowers were real, what would the world be like? And if people could choose their superpowers, what would be their ability of choice? So here comes the question: If you were to choose any superpower, what would it be?
Before I jump into the responses, I’d like to talk about my own superpower of choice! For me, the ultimate superpower would be telepathy. Why, you might ask, when there are so many more flashy and creative options out there? Well, the answer is that knowing what people are truly thinking would give me insight that I believe no other superpower can achieve, whether it’s understanding your friends better, knowing when someone’s lying, or even changing the course of situations before they play out. This power essentially allows you to become a master manipulator, literally getting inside your opponents’ minds. Of course, there’s always the argument that learning the true nature of society would make anyone depressed, but I like to think of telepathy as a choice: it’s not about uncovering how evil everyone secretly is or deciding that the world is doomed. It’s about understanding, empathy, and seeing perspectives you’d never otherwise know. And even if all the dark truths of humanity were revealed, let’s be real… the power is just too tempting to pass up!
I interviewed members of the Quill, and was delighted to find a wide variety of different replies and explanations. The answers were creative, often surprising, and even introduced new ideas that I’d never thought about before!
Here are their responses to the question, “If you could choose any superpower, what would it be?”:
“The ability to control time because you can do anything with that. You can stop time to go into a store and rob it or you could turn back time and do anything. Or you could look into the future and change it. You could change the world by just being able to control time” – Twisha K.
“Antman would be cool because you could turn into something tiny.” – Daksha G.
“Changing probability. You can do anything with it! If you can change probability, you can change anything. The probability that you can get any other superpower – 100%. The probability that I get rich – 100%. The probability that I fail my APs – 0%. The probability that I get into Harvard – 100%!” – Carolina S.
“Being able to control time. It would be really powerful to go back into the past and change the outcome of things. It’s really applicable to my life.” – Michelle G.
“Teleportation, so that I can go wherever I want I’ll be super fast, wouldn’t
need a car, and wouldn’t need to park. I could get gelato from Italy anytime I wanted and I could take the huzz to France!” – Vivian C.
“The power to teleport because I could go home whenever I wanted and sleep.” – Gia B.
“The best superpower is to be able to conjure as much food as possible any time you want. A lot of people think it’s time travel, but they don’t know that the lottery is a trap specifically to catch time travelers…” – Emily R.
“Teleportation because it’s basically a way to get a bunch of other powers, like invisibility for example. You could change the weather by going to a different place; you could do so much with it! You don’t have to waste time and money on cars! You could even take people with you and start your own business.” – Nishka J.
“The best superpower is telepathy because I could pretend to be God.” – Alice R.
“Not having to sleep because you could be infinitely efficient and work forever. No downtime yayyyyy…” – Chris X.
“Superintelligence because you can use that to learn any other superpower.” – Jason Z.
“Either waypoints or teleportation because of SUPERconvenience. I wouldn’t need to walk anywhere ever.” – Ethan G.
“Being able to fall asleep at any moment because I can’t fall asleep. Being able to sleep is amazing” – Ms. Shapiro
After looking at these interviews, it’s clear that everyone’s idea of the “best” superpower says something unique about who they are and what they value in life. Some people crave control, others convenience, and some just want a good night’s sleep! What makes this question so fascinating isn’t just the answers themselves, but what they reveal about us as people. After writing this article, I’ve definitely learned a lot, and I hope you did too from reading it!
